Ali and Nino

The sculpture A man and a woman by Tamara Kvesitadze features two moving figures, a man and a woman in constant motion – approaching, touching and then moving away from each other again.

The sculptural couple has become associated with the characters Ali and Nino in the novel by Kurban Said (1937) about the Muslim Azerbaijani boy Ali and the Christian Georgian young girl Nino and their sad love story at the time of the First World War. The novel “Ali and Nino” has been translated and published in many languages and in 2016 a film based on Said’s novel was released, directed by Asif Kapadia.

The sculpture is placed close to the harbour, at the end of the seaside park.
